How to turn off work-mode when you're working from home (or as an entrepreneur)

Whether you're still working from home, trying to find work, or going back to the work place, I think it's fair to say that most people have been struggling with turning off work-mode.

Creating a post-workday routine has been a recurring topic with my clients and friends recently, so I thought I'd share a few insights with you.

How to Create a "start-of-day" routine & "end-of-day" ritual

  • Have a designated work space

  • The Night Before

    • Put work materials in a desk organizer, use a drawer, or pack your work bag

    • Lay out your clothes for work

  • "Clocking in"

    • Get in the habit of waking up at the same time every day

    • Drink your coffee/ matcha/ tea/ water and eat breakfast

    • Get dressed for work (just get out of your PJ's)

    • Start a morning "commute"

      • This could be a walk around the block or a 5-10 minute drive looping around the main road

    • Come home and set up your workspace

  • "Clocking Out"

    • Say "see you tomorrow" to your co-workers

    • Pack up your work materials, turn off your work laptop or close your work related windows

    • Go for an evening "commute"

    • Change out of work clothes

    • Do something for yourself

      • Try an evening workout class (*ahem* JCH Livestreams)

      • Cook & eat dinner

      • Shower and recoup for evening activities

Try this out and see watch what happens!

Remember, setting these work boundaries is as much for you and protecting your personal life & emotional bandwidth, as it is for your work life & ability to be productive and fulfilled.
